Artist of the month!
Reyne Athanas is a long time Alaskan, artist and arts advocate.
Ceramics is Reyne’s first love and passion, and she continues to explore all
techniques in construction, design, glazing and firing. It is impossible to separate art out of
life, from teaching it, to making it, to living it. Reyne has taught all forms of art and ages
since 1973, for Lower Kuskokwim School District, UAF Kuskokwim Campus, Kuskokwim
Art Guild, and to family and friends. Reyne also likes to work with batik, silk painting,
watercolor and most recently innovative ways to recycle materials into one-of-kind pieces
of functional art. Advocating for the arts in all forms regionally, statewide and
nationally is an integral part of being an artist. It is important to actively support fellow
artists in all forms of expression and be committed to keeping the arts a live and vibrant.
Art and life are very similar, neither are neat, both are messy and the more you experience,
the richer they become.
